International students must submit either a TOEFL or IELTS exam score for consideration for admission. The Mays MBA Program requires a minimum TOEFL score of 250 (computer-based), 600 (paper-based) or 100 (TOEFL-iBT). In place of the TOEFL, the IELTS may be submitted for admission consideration. The Mays MBA Program requires a minimum score of 7.0 on the IELTS.

International students who hold an undergraduate degree from a U.S. institution are exempted from the TOEFL/IELTS requirement.

The Admissions Committee will consider requests to waive the TOEFL/IELTS score. Applicants seeking this waiver should apply for admission only after the waiver is granted by the Admissions Committee. Otherwise, an application submitted without a TOEFL or IELTS score will be considered incomplete and will remain inactive until the score is submitted or a waiver is granted.

Typically, the Admissions Committee will respond to your waiver request within three weeks. However, during times of high application volume, the response may take up to six weeks.

To request a TOEFL/IELTS waiver, send a one-page document by email to MaysMBA@tamu.edu. A request for a TOEFL waiver includes the following:

  • Overview of the number of years of education with English instruction
  • Overview of the number of years of professional experience with English as the primary language of communication
  • GMAT score (total score along with score/percentile for both Verbal and AWA sections)
  • Amount of time spent living and working in the United States, or another environment where English was the official/primary language
  • Any additional information to support your demonstrated English proficiency
